Rouli Van Der Linde

Partner

Rouli’s family were all small business owners when she was growing up, so she was constantly surrounded by business talk. Her family all had a great head for finances, and Rouli loved seeing they all build successful businesses.

Rouli completed her degree in 2004 and headed over to the UK where she worked for a national car rental company. On returning to Brisbane in 2006, she oversaw the running of the accounts department for construction equipment wholesaler and retailer. Throughout her working life, Rouli realised that not everyone has a head for finances, and the majority of business owners need support in that area. Hence, Rouli wanted to be that support for business owners to give them the best chance of success, so in 2010 she founded a bookkeeping business known as Thrive Advisors. As a qualified bookkeeper, Rouli wanted to support her clients through the highs and lows of running a business. Rouli loves working with people, and believes as a bookkeeper, you are in direct contact with clients every day and can make a real time impact on the success of their business.

In 2019, Rouli merged her business with Carbon, to become our first partner in Queensland. She chose to merge Thrive with Carbon, as she was attracted to our forward-thinking and people-centred business. Our core attributes and vision greatly align with Rouli’s, so we were the perfect match. Rouli now heads our bookkeeping division in Brisbane with Gail Rogerson.

Business tips from Rouli

It is important to get advice early on. In the beginning, cash flow is always a bit lean but investment in advice at this stage makes a big difference later. One key tip is to always keep your business and personal finances separate. Using the business account as a personal bank is a hard habit to break so make sure you keep it separate from the beginning.

Get to know Rouli

Rouli was born in South Africa and grew up in many different countries. She’s called Brisbane home since early teenage years. When she’s not working, you’ll find Rouli hanging out with friends and family, playing with her dogs, or reading a good book. Rouli is quite the adventurous type, and once hiked the Inca trail in a knee brace, with a torn ACL and meniscus. She was so determined to complete the train that she never once considered giving up when she injured herself three weeks prior. It was such an amazing experience (even with a brace on!), that Rouli would love to do it again with two functioning knees.

Keep your business and personal finances separate.
