Our proud history
Our Carbon offices in Gawler and Nuriootpa were launched in 2022 after local firm Symes Accountants joined forces with Carbon Group.
Symes Accountants was established in 1986 by Peter Symes and has been helping business owners and individuals in Gawler ever since. In 2001, Peter Caddy joined the firm as a Partner, and in 2005 Hans van Heuven also became a Partner.
In 2022, Peter, Hans and their team partnered with Carbon Group. Together, we aim to make the lives of business owners easier by taking care of all their accounting, tax, bookkeeping, finance and lending, and insurance needs.
Our Nuriootpa office launched at the same time when our Accounting & Tax Partner, David Hornhardt teamed up with Peter and Hans to expand our service offering in the Barossa Valley.

Peter Caddy

Peter joined Carbon in 2022 after we partnered with his accounting firm, Symes Accountants. Peter has always been a strong advocate for an ideal work/life balance and has an outside passion for cycling, wood turning and wooden toy making. On the weekends, you can find Peter spending time with his grandchildren or out in the garden tending his flowers and fruit trees and vegetable garden.

David joins Carbon Group in 2019 as a partner in the accounting division following the merger with Holiatt Daant in Barossa.
Hans van Heuven
PARTNER
Hans became a Carbonite after we partnered with his Gawler-based firm, Symes Accountants, in 2022. A common day for Hans involves a morning run, cycle or swim, followed by tending to his garden and topped off with supporting his beloved Adelaide Crows.

After moving from South Africa to Australia when he was 14, Sean graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Commerce and joins our team with over 20 years of experience. Sean is our saving grace and our go-to man for all SMSF related things. Aside from superannuation, Sean is very passionate about music, specifically grunge and brit pop revolutions from the 90’s. His perfect weekend involves a morning bike ride, attempting an escape room (and probably failing) and spending the night in with his family with a giant grazing board of cheese.

Michele is our office chatterbox in Gawler, pick a topic and she’ll talk to you for as long as you want. Aside from having a good chat with her clients, Michele’s favourite thing about the industry is the opportunity to help her clients with their financial struggles. On the weekend, you can find Michele watching Peppa Pig with her grandkids and isn’t ashamed to admit that she knows all the lyrics and dance moves to every Peppa Pig song.

Lisa joined us in what was supposed to be a short-term relief role and has now grown from helping clients at the front desk to assisting them with their SMSF compliance and bookkeeping needs. Lisa is always up for a chat and loves getting to know the people that come in and out of the office. Spending time with her family is Lisa’s favourite way to unwind after a busy day at the office and often reminisces about her perfect honeymoon in Paris.

An ambassador for facing your fears, Wendy’s afraid of heights but went hot air ballooning (and loved it!).

Mark joined Carbon in 2020 to head-up our insurance division. With nearly 30 years experience within the Perth Intermediated Insurance sector, Mark has extensive knowledge of both industry and product disciplines which he passes onto his SME and corporate clients.

Janean joins Carbon with over 25 years’ experience in the financial planning industry. After losing her father as a young girl and experiencing the drama that followed because he didn’t have his financial affairs in order, Janean was passionate to ensure other families have their finances in order so they do not suffer in the same way.

Andreas joined Carbon in 2018 as a director within our wealth division. He specialises in superannuation and retirement planning, including asset protection, cash flow management, SMSFs and investments. Andreas is passionate about ensuring his clients achieve their financial goals and being part of their journey in achieving them.
Ryan Eastman

Ryan joined Carbon Finance after working seven years at Westpac in personal banking, business banking and home finance roles. Previously, he worked for Perth’s largest property investment firms as a broker. Originally from Country Victoria, he moved to Perth in 2013. Ryan takes an advice-based approach to mortgage broking, liaising with the respective experts to ensure his clients’ lending strategy compliments their other investments.

With a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Cert IV and Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking, Jacob was previously a finance broker at a large investment firm before joining the team at Carbon Finance. As a finance broker, Jacob offers advisory based mortgage and finance strategies tailored to clients' individual goals.

Jamie is a CPA with a swag of university degrees and broad experience across chartered and corporate accounting. He co-founded Carbon with Nathan in 2014 and is the foundation of our bookkeeping team. Aside from Carbon, Jamie spends his time as a board member for multiple tech start-ups and believes in giving back to the community.

Nathan bought into Sterling Accountants in 2006 and then co-founded Carbon with Jamie in 2014. Nathan was the foundation to our accounting team in Perth, and leads our accountants in Osborne Park. He finds it extremely rewarding to work with business owners to improve their profitability and watch their companies grow.

Mason joined Carbon as our Group Financial Controller after impressive stints in EY and Wesfarmers. When Mason isn’t busy making us all look good, he enjoys snorkelling and camping outdoors, playing video games, and staring lovingly at his Pokémon card collection.

Hayden has travelled the world extensively (you name it, he's probably done it) but has now settled down to the joys of family bliss.
