The Challenge: Transitioning a Legacy Business

When Cotter Floors first engaged Carbon, they were navigating a major change. Their long-time bookkeeper had retired and Director Stephen Bailey was stepping back, passing the reins to General Manager Jarryd Bailey.

As someone who grew up in the business and knows what it takes to keep operations running smoothly on and off the tools, Jarryd saw the opportunity not just to continue the business but to modernise it.

Cotter Floors had relied on traditional processes for years, paper-based records, a weekly on-site bookkeeper and limited visibility between updates. While that system had served them well in the past, it was no longer sustainable.

“At the time, our business was built on very manual and traditional processes but I saw an opportunity to bring in smarter, digital systems. I wanted more visibility, less admin and a partner who could help us evolve,” says Jarryd Bailey.

“We were heavily reliant on a weekly on-site bookkeeper, loads of paperwork and very little visibility. It made it hard to plan, to pivot or even know where we stood day to day.”

Kate and the team led a seamless transition from MYOB to Xero, moving Cotter Floors to a cloud-based system that eliminated paperwork, reduced admin and enabled remote support, all while integrating with their existing CRM and using tools like Hubdoc for real-time expense capture.

“From my first conversation with Kate, we discussed transitioning to Xero and she managed the process from start to finish with ease. She helped us move from a paper-heavy, in-person system to a cloud-based setup that allowed her to handle all of our bookkeeping remotely, at a reduced capacity.”

Since then, we’ve integrated Xero with their CRM, which has streamlined their accounts even more. Using Hubdoc and other add-ons has also been incredibly valuable. What started as a necessary change quickly became one of the best decisions Cotter Floors made for improving how their business runs day to day.
