Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants – South East Queensland Rainfall and Flooding

The Queensland Government released an Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants to assist directly impacted small businesses, primary producers and non-profits with the costs of clean-up and reinstatement.

Grants of up to $75,000 are available for affected producers and small businesses following South East Queensland Rainfall and Flooding to hire or purchase equipment and materials, clean up, remove debris, replace fencing and other costs associated with the recovery process. Producers should take photographs of the direct damage to accompany their application.

Applicants need to show they are an eligible small business or primary producer, within the declared disaster area and demonstrate they have suffered direct impact from the disaster. Access below the guidelines for more information and the links for QRIDA website.

  • Primary producer

An initial amount of up to $15,000 is available to support an initial claim. Evidence of the direct damage such as photographs, quotations, tax invoices and official receipts is required.
A subsequent amount of up to $60,000 is available to support subsequent claims for which full evidence of payment is required.

  • Small Business

An initial amount of up to $15,000 is available to support an initial claim. Evidence of the direct damage such as photographs, quotations, tax invoices and official receipts is required.
A subsequent amount of up to $35,000 is available to support subsequent claims for which full evidence of payment is required.

How to make a claim

To be considered for an Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Grants you need to submit a completed application form, accompanied by the documentation stated on the application form before the
application closing day. This includes a rates notice/lease agreement, 5-10 photographs of the damage, evidence of payment (or quotes when applying for the initial grant amount), and details of
any insurance. The same application form can be used when putting in both an initial claim and a subsequent claim.

Complete applications are assessed in order of receipt and QRIDA may request further information to help assess an application.

Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment

Services Australia has announced the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) to support people affected by the South East Queensland Floods.

The Disaster Recovery Payment is a one-off, lump-sum payment of:

  • $1,000 for eligible adults.
  • $400 for each eligible child younger than 16.

Who can get it

To be eligible for the Disaster Recovery Payment, you or a dependent child you’re a principal carer for, must have been seriously affected by the storms and floods. For example:

  • You were seriously injured.
  • You’re the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing.
  • The flood caused major damage to your home.

If you’re part of a couple, you can both claim this payment. You and your partner will need to make separate claims.

You have until 1 September 2022 to make a claim for the following Local Government Areas (LGAs):

  • Brisbane
  • Bundaberg
  • Fraser Coast
  • Gladstone
  • Gold Coast
  • Goondiwindi
  • Gympie
  • Ipswich
  • Lockyer Valley
  • Logan
  • Moreton Bay
  • Noosa
  • North Burnett
  • Redland
  • Scenic Rim
  • Somerset
  • South Burnett
  • Southern Downs
  • Sunshine Coast
  • Toowoomba
  • Western Downs.

How to make a claim

Australian residents and protected visa holders must lodge their claim through their myGov portal using the Centrelink service.

  1. Sign in to myGov and select Centrelink in your linked services.
  2. Select make a claim or view claim status.
  3. Select make a claim.
  4. Scroll to Help in an emergency and select get started.
  5. Select apply for disaster recovery payment.
  6. Select begin.
  7. Answer the eligibility and claim questions.
  8. Submit your claim.
