Steve Wai CA
Steve joined Sterling Accountants in 2002 (with Nathan Hood coming on board in 2005), which later merged with Jamie Davison’s bookkeeping firm to become Carbon Group. He’s been with Carbon throughout the entire journey from launch to where we are now and has played a key role in the success and growth of our accounting division. These achievements have been recognised by multiple industry awards, including 2017 SMSF & Accounting Awards Tax & Compliance Firm of the Year, and Multi Service Firm of the Year. Steve chose to become a partner of Carbon as he wanted to be in control of his own career and work alongside like-minded individuals who are aspiring to be the very best that they can be. Initially based in our Osborne Park office, Steve now leads our team of accountants in Ellenbrook, Perth.
With 16 years’ experience in public practice, he has a very intelligent eye for tax and finance and making them both work harder for his clients. Steve specialises in SME and estate and tax planning, providing effective strategies for his clients.
A stand-out achievement for Steve was transitioning a client’s farm to the next generation while maximising the amount going into superannuation and minimising the income tax payable. This passion for achieving results for his clients along with helping them to understand their business and what all the numbers mean is what steered his career into accounting.

Business tips from Steve
Speak to your accountant throughout the year. Having a strong relationship with your accountant will result in getting the best possible advice. Everyone's circumstances are different from each other so there are no template solutions. The advice you receive should be tailored to your specific circumstances.
Have your financials and tax returns prepared as early as possible so you are well aware of your current tax obligations and future ongoing PAYG instalments (prepaid tax for the coming year).
