Nathan Hood CPA

Co-Founder

Holding a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance as well as a CPA, Nathan Hood has been pushing to shape the accounting industry from a young age. Buying into a business at the age of 23, only to have the retiring partner take back all his clients 18 months later left Nathan with no income and a very large debt – not a great way to begin his business career. Instead of falling over and blaming someone else, Nathan took it as a challenge. After a few years of determination and hard work, he re-built the business back up, with a strong client base and a great team.

It was in 2014 that Nathan met Jamie Davison , who was running a successful bookkeeping business . The two businessmen soon realized they shared the same goals, in terms of wanting to provide a one-stop-shop for core business needs. Carbon Group launched, and Nathan now heads the accounting division which has more than 20 staff. Carbon Group has gone from strength-to-strength, which has been a huge achievement for Nathan.

Business has always been a passion of Nathan’s. From a young age, he was on a mission to build his own business empire. Specializing in business structuring, growth strategies, tax minimization strategies and advisory work, Nathan has always wanted to help his clients to achieve their own goals and be with them on the journey as they grow their own dream.

Away from Carbon, Nathan dedicates time to giving back to the business world and the wider community in multiple ways. He sits on the board of  Entrepreneurs Organization (EO), a not-for-profit designed to help entrepreneurs perform at a high level. He gives invaluable advisory support and mentorship that enables small and medium businesses to see success; a great contribution to Australia’s economy. Nathan also sits on boards for multiple clients’ businesses, including a highly successful national physiotherapy health group, Life Ready .

Nathan has aligned with multiple charities including Telethon Speech and Hearing, Mission Australia and St Vinnies, participating annually in Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout.

Business tips from Nathan

If you’re considering starting your own business, it’s important to remember your reasons why. If it is for lifestyle choices, remember that growing an empire will not give you more freedom. If your goal is to grow an empire, then you need to be on the front foot of your industry at all times. Staying still is actually going backwards – the industry is constantly evolving.

In terms of accounting, it’s important to find an accountant that you have a great relationship with. The more you speak with and engage with your accountant, the more tailored advice you are going to get, as they’ll have a better understanding of your business and your vision for the future. Look at the experience of the accountant; do they have the first-hand experience in what you’re aiming to achieve? If not, consider if they are the right person to be giving you advice. Our team of accountants in Perth pride themselves on taking a proactive approach to accounting.

Industry awards

Nathan has been the lucky recipient of several industry awards, both individually and for Carbon Group collectively. Here’s just a few:
