The ATO stopped issuing paper quarterly PAYG and GST instalment notices from the December 2020 quarter as part of their digital improvement program. As a result, clients who had a digital preference on ATO systems, would not have received a paper instalment activity statement (IAS).

This change meant tax practitioners had to access these instalment notices through the PLS software or on online services for agents three to four days after the activity statement generation date, while self-lodgers could access through their myGov account.

The ATO received feedback from our industry about the issues that resulted from this move and have decided to temporarily issue paper PAYG and GST quarterly instalment notices, starting with the June 2021 quarterly notices.

This move back to the paper instalments is an interim solution until the ATO can find and implement a suitable digital solution.
