We have had a large number of our clients call us recently in regards to phone scammers claiming to be from the ATO, requesting immediate payment. As the end of the financial tax year draws upon us, scam calls are expected to be on the rise, so we would like to advise our clients to be vigilant in regards to their finance details.
The callers usually demand immediate payment for non-existent tax debts, or offer refunds, requesting account details for the payment or refund to be made.
If you receive one of these scam calls, hang up. Do not, under any circumstance, provide any bank account or credit card details. If the ATO have an issue with your tax return, they will write directly to your registered agent. Their compliance processes are thorough and measured, and they would never request account details over the phone.
If you have any queries in regards to this, please contact Carbon Accountants on 9446 8588.
