Building resilience is crucial if you want to succeed both personally and professionally. Here are four strategies successful people use to build their resilience and reframe their thoughts in a more positive way, ultimately allowing them to grow beyond the challenges that would otherwise hold them back.

Building resilience is crucial if you want to succeed both personally and professionally.
Resilience is all about rethinking the way you see and manage setbacks. It’s about learning from your mistakes, turning a negative into a positive and understanding that failure is often the key to success.

The definition of resilience is “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties”. When it comes to running a business, being able to pick yourself up after being knocked down is crucial if you want to succeed. Here are four strategies successful people use to build their resilience and reframe their thoughts in a more positive way, ultimately allowing them to grow beyond the challenges that would otherwise hold them back.

Have solid goals

Having goals provides you with a target for determining whether you are succeeding or whether you need to rethink your approach. Without goals you lack focus, direction and resilience. With clear goals in mind, you have the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties, reducing downtime and allowing the business to progress smoothly and efficiently.

Choose how you react

By controlling your stress and managing your emotions, you can train your mind to turn adversity into opportunity. Rather than giving up and dwelling on your mistakes, see it as a lesson, learn from it and keep moving forward.

Rejection is rarely personal

I think we can all agree that rejection isn't a particularly enjoyable experience. Whether it be a pitch, a job, or a project, it can be easy to blow rejection out of proportion by focusing on the negative aspects. Instead, focus on how far you have come and use this situation as an experience to learn from. Don’t regard a rejection as a statement about you personally.

Get comfortable being uncomfortable

Embracing a strong mindset will give you the confidence to step outside of your comfort zone and push you to take risks. If you become too comfortable, you will end up holding yourself back instead of challenging yourself to learn, grow and experience new things. Nothing great ever happens inside your comfort zone.

Building resilience and embracing a positive mindset is often easier said than done, so we thought what better way than to invite three of Perth’s powerhouses who have embraced a resilient mindset to present at our next quarterly networking event. Hear firsthand how they overcame obstacles and bounced back from challenges, ultimately allowing them to grow a successful business.

We’ve all been knocked down, so let’s get up, get motivated and get to this event!
