Nathan Hood CPA
Nathan bought into Sterling Accountants in 2006 and co-founded Carbon with Jamie in 2014. He builds business strategies that achieve the best possible outcomes for the business owners we work with. Usually that means making them more money, and that means making them very happy. He finds it extremely rewarding to work with business owners to improve their profitability and watch their companies grow.
Clinton Gibson CA
Clinton is a CA with a B.Com from Curtin University who joined Sterling in 2006 and now meets taxation and business development challenges head-on. He’s a bit like a fire fighter, only not as muscly - Clint is very good at putting out the little spot fires that burst into flames in so many businesses. Right now, Clint is in the gym, working on the rig and hoping the photographer calls soon.
Steve Wai CA
With a Bachelor of Commerce, a Bachelor of Science and a Graduate Diploma in Chartered Accounting, Steve is more than slightly over qualified, just the way we like them at Carbon. Steve joined Sterling in 2002, and has been working on what he calls ‘bean counter sex appeal’ ever since. He’s a family man, a sportsman, and a man with a very intelligent eye for tax and finance and making them both work harder for our clients.
Susie is a practice manager within our accounting division. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (UWA, 2003) Double major in Accounting and E-Commerce, and is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor. Susie has 13 years’ experience in tax and accounting, including four years in audit (which turned out to be three years too long!). When not at work, Susie is spending time with her gorgeous little boy, Dominic. She loves camping and fishing, and regularly heads up to Coral Bay for some snorkelling. She’s a geek at heart and loves all things Sci-Fi!
Michelle has had a wide range of tax experience from the ATO to big four and second tier. Her passion is working closely with clients, their families and their businesses to achieve the most effective strategies for them - financially, tax effectively and also for their desired lifestyle. She loves the opportunity that being a Partner offers - to get close to clients and become heavily involved in their affairs. The tax world is forever changing and it takes a close relationship with your accountant to help navigate you through - Michelle thoroughly enjoy being that person for her clients.
Jamie comes to us with 8 years of accounting experience after Majoring in accounting and economics in a bachelor of business at ECU. When he's not crunching numbers like a mean machine, he's coaching his rag tag Football team who got off to a rough start but really came into their stride after learning some valuable lessons about friendship and being true to yourself. There was also a series of montages and whacky adventures.
Julie Bennett CPA
Julie attained a Bachelor in Accounting from Curtin Uni and has been in the public practice space for six years. She continued her education to gain a CPA qualification. Julie has been in the commercial space for two years, gaining tones of experience in on the ground business operation, and what clients need in order to run their business effectively and efficiently, cutting red tape. Outside work, she’s a health and fitness nut, taking on every challenge she can.
Lee Collins CA
Lee holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and came to the company in 2011 after a stint working for Kmart Australia. Lee walks quietly, but he carries a big stick that he uses to beat businesses back into shape and get them running profitably once again. He’s also pretty handy with an ice hockey stick and puck and can often be found gliding across an ice hockey rink.
Kate Fennell CA
Kate joined Carbon after working with a mid-tier accounting firm in the tax and business services sector. She gained heaps of hands-on experience assisting a variety of businesses, whilst also studying and becoming a qualified chartered accountant. She’s obsessed with dogs (especially hers!) and donuts. Not necessarily together. But she will stop people in the street to pat their dog!
Nur started her accounting career in business services and taxation and has been working in public practice since 2012. She is devoted to providing a full range of tax services to individuals and business clients aimed at maximising their outcomes. Nur wishes to specialise in self managed superannuation funds and also aims to be a CPA in the near future. In her spare time Nur loves spending time with her newborn son and family, being outdoors and socialising with friends.
Irene Lim CA
Irene graduated from ECU with flying colours and a B.Com (Accounting and Finance). Since joining Carbon she has kept those colours flying with her superb handling of figures, financial statements, colleagues and clients. Irene is racking up achievements with Carbon including her (not quite) undisputed title of Runner-Up Ping Pong Queen of the Universe.
Chris Loftus CA
Chris joined Carbon’s accounting team after getting some great experience at PwC and Deloitte. He was more than happy to leave the big 4! When he’s not crunching numbers, you’ll find Chris playing tennis, indoor soccer, or supporting his team, Collingwood. He’s super sporty and received the under 11s Ascot Eagles bowling award for the most wickets taken. He’s also eaten 25 chicken nuggets with large chips in under 10 minutes; we’re not sure which achievement we’re most impressed with.
Andrew is an Accounting major who joined Carbon in June 2014. When he’s not demonstrating his exceptional work ethic and eye for financial detail, he loves sport, gaming and travel. Combining gaming and travel on a trip to Las Vegas he used all his financial super powers to emerge from the neon jungle with a pocketful of winnings and zero encounters with Elvis.
Ryan is Carbon’s Graduate Accountant, working in our Swan Valley office. He graduated from UWA with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting and Corporate Finance. He’s currently studying for his CA. He’s a bit of a fitness freak, and was previously a bodybuilder (although he likes to keep that quiet. Sorry Ryan!) Ryan is dedicated to his studying, but also loves travelling and seeing new things. He recently tied the knot with his best friend, Jessie, and they are enjoying married life, along with Ryan’s sidekick, Peanut – a toy poodle.
Andre holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economic and Informatics) and specialises in enhancing the productivity of our client’s businesses with Xero integrated cloud applications. Yes, this is as good as it sounds. Andre likes his food and is Carbon’s official advocate for the benefits of eggs, salmon and avocado. He once met Pete Evans from MKR in JB-Hifi and shook him by the hand. He’s a big foodie fan bless him.
Natasha brings a Bachelor of Commerce with an Accounting major to Carbon, as well as some exceptional dance moves but more of that later. Day to day, Natasha will be busily crunching numbers for the businesses Carbon works with. Outside of work, Natasha loves to dance, travel and read. Believe it or not, she was once a back up dancer for Weird Al Yankovic. We can’t top that!
Phoebe really does make us all look fantastic. Phoebe helps us manage clients and also spends a lot of time on the phone to the ATO. Not a task may people envy. To let off steam after work, she loves good pubs, fushing, fush and chups and beer. Apparently Phoebe’s from In Zid and says things a little differently to her Aussie work mates. We hadn’t noticed eh bro.
You’ll find Laura behind the front desk reception in our Ellenbrook office. She’s a valuable addition to the team, with over 15 years of experience in administration, starting as the fax room junior, to secretary, personal assistant, to document control and back. Our accountants would be lost without her! Laura has two young children, so any spare time outside of the office is spent being their PA!
Dana has an extensive background in administration working in the private education and finance sectors, and is continuing her education in business and administration. She understands the demands of a busy office and the importance of accuracy, confidentiality and dealing with numbers. Dana is the first point of contact for our clients and keeps everything ticking over. She can answer most of your administrative enquiries regarding your tax affairs.
